History of mammography: 2003 – 2016
In 2003, MAMMOMAT Novation was the first digital mammography system with a full-field amorphous selenium (a-Se) detector. Besides excellent image quality and optimized clinical workflow, the system also reduced dose up to 40%.1
In 2004, with MAMMOMAT Balance, Siemens Healthineers introduced its first mammography system for limited budgets – to enable high-quality mammography to be provided to ever more women.
In 2007, Siemens Healthineers introduced a flexible mammography platform for screening and diagnostics: MAMMOMAT Inspiration.
In 2008, stereotactic biopsy was released as an option and upgrade for MAMMOMAT Inspiration.
In 2009, digital breast tomosynthesis with the True Breast Tomosynthesis option was introduced.
In 2013, PRIME Technology was introduced for MAMMOMAT Inspiration. The unique technology helps save up to 30%2 dose.
In 2014, MAMMOMAT Fusion and MAMMOMAT Select were launched. While the MAMMOMAT Fusion is a premium digital system for everyday screening and diagnostics, MAMMOMAT Select is a new analog system enhanced with smart features.
Another innovation followed in 2016 with the High Definition Breast Tomosynthesis.3 This technology includes special algorithms that offer excellent image quality in 2D and 3D as well as dose savings of up to 100%.4
